Welcome message from the President of Asian Federation of Biotechnology

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 13th Asian Federation of Biotechnology Regional Symposium (ARS 2022), held in Kinmen, Taiwan from June 25th to 27th, 2022.

AFOB Regional Symposium (ARS) is a major AFOB activity for research exchange. Since the first ARS which was held in Nepal in 2011, this symposium series have been the major annual event of AFOB. The last ARS meeting was the 12th Asian Federation of Biotechnology Regional Symposium (ARS 2020), which had been successfully held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in early February 2020 right before the COVID-19 pandemic. The series was forced to suspend last year due to the ongoing pandemic. While ARS 2022 will resume this year, it will be held in a hybrid mode. Participants who cannot attend in person will be able to attend online. Based on its commitment to AFOB members, AFOB is overcoming difficulties and continuing to hold academic activities to a high standard.

In order to focus on the pandemic and its impact on the economy, COVID-19 and bioeconomy have been the main themes of most online AFOB events over the past two years. Therefore, in addition to the various fields of applied biotechnology, we very much welcome presentations on these topics in this ARS. Biotechnology's contribution to vaccine, testing, and drug development directly aids pandemic mitigation. It is also the mission of AFOB to strengthen the connection between AFOB and the regional bio-industrial sectors to promote the development of Asian bioeconomy, especially in the post-pandemic era. We are grateful for your participation in the ARS series and look forward to this more exciting ARS 2022 in Kinmen.
